  • “Just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who was involved in the creation of this event, and all of the people who came out and showed their support. It was a real honour to be a part of this beautiful night. The spirit of peace and love that we all came together to create and send to Haiti will doubtless have a profound impact, not just on the island itself but on all of our lives here at home as well. Thank you all very much. I am quite sure I will never play another show quite like this one.” – Jdavyd Williams on Facebook event wall
  • “I know the final numbers will be great, although I think the feelings of camaraderie and compassion alone were great gifts to CVille and Haiti” – event attendant
  • “The event last night was super moving and impressive. I’m stunned at the ability of the graduate students to pull this off and, as always, by the quality of local music in Charlottesville. I personally loved seeing the UVa music department community and the public school first grade community in one garage style performance place for funky arts. The first graders were, of course, fairly certain that this was all about them. There was much excitement setting up their table which displayed as many pictures as possible. They sold the pictures for $5 bucks and explained to anyone who would listen that you could take the picture home or send it to Haiti…” – Bonnie Gordon, parent of two Burnley-Moran first grade artists [excerpt from blog-post by Bonnie]

We raised $8,500. More than 400 people attended and participated on Saturday evening.

Thanks for to our co-sponsors: Random Row Books, The Bridge PAI, Carpe Donut, C&O Restaurants, Devideo, HzCollective, and UVa’s Global Development Organization.

Thanks to our amazing organizing team: Beth Bollwerk, Aniseh Burtner, Sarah Culpeper, Erik DeLuca, David Eklund, Emily Gale, Maria Guarino, Matt Jones, Cathy Monnes, Carey Sargent, Arcadia Williams, Jdavyd Williams – and my partner-in-crime Peter Traub.

Thanks to all of you who donated art, performance, lessons, food, attended the event, and poured your heart into the event to make it happen. We made an amazing community in Charlottesville on Saturday night.

We encourage those who can to continue to offer funds, thoughts, and love to the Haitians in need. Pick your favorite organization (listed on this site) and then contribute to the quake relief efforts. Let’s continue to think about the people of Haiti as rebuilding and recovery may take years and decades.

More Press on Love4Haiti

The event has attracted lots of local media coverage, in addition to the Newsplex story on Burnley-Moran Elementary.

Aniseh just spoke on NBC29 bright and early during the morning show live. Peter chatted with the Daily Progress yester. I spoke with UVa Cavalier Daily a couple of days ago. Go, everyone!

Visit @ Burnley-Moran Elementary School

A fortuitous connection occurred in midst of this insanely caffeinated planning process for Love4Haiti. I received an email from Bonnie Gordon, UVA music faculty member. Bonnie offered to could coordinate the first graders at Burnley-Moran Elementary, with the help of their teacher Kristen Meyer to contribute art works to the silent art auction at the event.

Thrilled by the idea, so I tweeted it on @Love4HaitiCvill. The tweet intrigued Jim Hanchett of the Newsplex. The next thing I knew the camera crew was showing up at Burnley-Moran for a story. Peter showed up to hang out with the first grade artists and the news crew. So that was it, we were on the news yesterday.

Peter took some adorable pictures of the artists in action. Kristin will bring a few first graders representing their class to come to our event tomorrow. They will be talking and “selling” their art at the table.
